Tom Scorer (Royal Navy & Royal Marines CA) took his second open victory of the season on the same course in the Kernow Racing Team 10, while road bike competitor Kerry Paul (Duchy Velo) was the quickest woman.

Despite taking place on the reasonably flat Cornwall course road bikes were a popular choice with six of the top seven women on them.

The event also saw Ian Matthews and Len Pascoe presented with CTT certificates of honour. Between them they have contributed over 110 years to district events.

The S6/10 course sees competitors start outside Tresillian in Cornwall before heading out and back along the B3275 to the turn at Brighton.

Veteran rider Scorer was the only rider to break the 22-minute mark to take victory in a winning time of 21 minutes and 44 seconds – an average speed of over 27.6 miles per hour.

The 43-year-old also won the Kernow Racing Team event on the same course last month posting a quicker time of 21-22 on that occasion.

A close battle for second saw Oliver Baylin (www.giant-helston.co.uk) finish in 22-17 which was 11 seconds faster than Anrew J Parnowski (Plymouth Corinthian CC).

“Variable conditions made for a tough outing on the course,” said Scorer.

“Rain, hail and sunshine were all encountered in the 10 miles. There was also a fair amount of standing water on the course to navigate.

“I’m pleased with my second win and to get back racing after several weather related cancellations.

“As always an excellently run event with fun atmosphere and great to celebrate the incredible contribution of two stalwarts of the time trial scene.”

In the women’s event veteran rider Paul stopped the clock in a winning time of 26 minutes and 36 seconds – over a minute clear of her nearest competitor.

Paul was competing in her first open event for almost five year and first in the road bike category.

Fellow road bike competitor and veteran Angharad Berriman (Penzance Wheelers CC) finished second in 27-51 just four seconds quicker than best female time trial competitor Rose Willis (St Austell Whs CC) in 27-55.

“I’ve not raced that course before so it was somewhat of an experiment,” said Paul. “Warming up it was horribly cold and I was shaking but afterwards it was fine.

“I hadn’t ridden the course before and should have gone a bit faster on the outward leg. I was quite surprised that I was quicker than the time trial bikes as I didn’t expect to take time out of them on that course.

“For me the course felt flat as I’m used to riding in the hills.”

The open road bike category saw the top two riders separate by just three seconds following a close battle.

Huw Greenish (Truro CC) went quickest stopping the clock in 23-11 following a tight battle with Michael Hooper (05/03) in 23-14.

The battle for third was also a close one with Sam Nancarrow (Saint Piran) stopping the clock in 24-30 just 13 seconds ahead of Chris Dominey (Kernow Racing Team) in 24-43.

Quickest youth rider Oliver Riches (Wheal Velocity) finished fifth overall in the road bike category in 25-01, while Zack Davis (Holsworthy Peloton) was fastest junior (26-21).
