Matt Bottrill claimed his third win of the season at the Matlock Cycling Club 10-mile time trial on Sunday morning, with fastest female going to Ruth Anness.

Riding for his own Team Bottrill, Bottrill clocked 21-08 to seal victory ahead of Lee Tunnicliffe (South Normanton CC) in 21-29, while a time of 21-54 helped Mapperley CC rider Ian Guilor take the final spot on the podium.

This is Bottrill’s third victory from five races this campaign after winning at Kettering CC 20-mile time trial on March 3 and then the Sheffrec CC 10-mile 2Up team time trial on April 27.

“It was an early morning start, and there were cold conditions with a headwind out and tailwind back, with the race on a single A road with no traffic,” explained Bottrill.

“It just felt good to be out there racing again and I was really happy to take the win with 21:06. I now have a few weeks out of racing as now I have a couple of triathlon relays to take part in.”

In the women’s event, Velo Bavarian rider Anness took the top spot in 25-46, seeing off competition from Rebecca Parkin (Trek Sheffield) in 25-41, while Anness’ clubmate Elizabeth Bridgen completed the top three with a time of 25-46.

This event, run on the A10/16 course, is an out-and-back circuit that starts in Darley Dale and heads northbound along the A6 through Rowsley and onto Bakewell, where riders turn at the traffic island and follow the route back along the A6 past the start line to finish on Dale Road North.
