Alex Dowsett earned victory in his first open time trial of the season at the Diss and District Cycling Club 25 on Sunday morning, with Laura Davies finishing as fastest female.

Riding for Nopinz, former world hour record holder Dowsett clocked 50-19 to seal victory and finish just five seconds outside of Timothy Torrie’s course record of 50-14.

This was Dowsett’s first time trial win since finishing quickest at the Hart Performance Coaching Summer Classic 10-mile time trial last July.

Loose Cannon’s Conditioning rider Matt O’Brien took the runners-up spot in 53-14, while a time of 53-30 ensured David Halliday (Team Bottrill) secured third place.

O’Brien’s second place also helped Loose Cannon’s Conditioning to the overall team prize.

Quickest road bike went to John Manlow (Ely & District CC) in 1:02-51, with Andy Kennedy (Ipswich BC) second place in 1:06-28.

Dan Blackburn (Epic Orange Race Team) and Chris Holmes (VC Norwich) were fastest two-up in 53-33, ahead of Ely & District CC pair Simon Butteriss and Rory Havis on road bikes in 58-09.

In the women’s event Davies set 58-10 for Jadan Vive Le Velo, while Loose Cannon’s Conditioning pair Becky Ridge and Hannah O’Brien set 1:00-21 and 1:00-49 for second and third respectively.

On her win, Davies said: “Cold and cross-windy conditions made for a challenging day on a course, which is by no means flat for this part of the country.

“The sun was out and the roads were nice and dry which definitely helped morale!

“Next for me is the National Road Bike Championships next weekend - my first time trial was on a road bike so I'm looking forward to it!”

This event, being run on the B25/17 course, is a rolling single-carriageway out-and-back route that starts just outside of Bressingham on the A1066 and heads westbound, passing Garboldisham and reaching Thetford before riders turn and follow the A1066 back to finish just west of the start line.
