Pro rider Josh Tarling (Ineos Grenadiers) set a new course record, while Lisa Davies (VMCC powered by Y Beic) was quickest female at the Bynea CC 50-mile time trial near Llandovery in Carmarthenshire, Wales, on Sunday morning.

The 19-year-old, who comes from nearby Aberystwyth, sliced 57 seconds off the previous best for the R50/5 course, which had been held by Polish TT legend Marcin Bialoblocki since 2019.

Tarling, who has been riding all over the world in events such as the Paris-Roubaix and UAE Tour this season, returned home to local action this week and took part in club events with Pontypool RCC on Tuesday evening where he set an unofficial course record of 17-37, as well as beating his own unofficial record in Thursday’s Monmouthshire Wheelers 10 with 17-22.

His time of 1-35-26 was almost 25 minutes faster than any other rider on the day, with second spot going to Phillip Turner (Fulfil the Potential Racing), while Justin Davies (Ammanford Tri and Cycling) taking third, 53 seconds further back.

Fastest female was Lisa Davies (VMCC powered by Y Beic) whose time of 2-17-56 was just short of four minutes better than Port Talbot Wheelers’ Hollie Labunsky in second.

Davies’ victory comes after she placed second in both the Bynea CC 10 and 25 last weekend, as well as sixth in the Welsh 25-Mile Championships in April.

Fastest veteran on target time was Paul Colman of Port Talbot Wheelers, who covered the course from Llandovery to Carmarthen and back in 2-03-04 for a plus of 23-20.

Conditions were warm and dry but a bit breezy on the R50/5, which begins near Llandovery and heads down the A40 past Llandeilo and Pontargothi to the turn at Carmarthen.
