Alastair Ribbands

Alastair Ribbands secured a stunning one-second victory in the men’s event at the Manchester and District TTA 10-mile time trial on Saturday afternoon, while his Congleton CC – My Windsock team-mate Lucy Rogers finished as fastest female on a bitterly cold day in Cheshire.

In a time of 21-13, Ribbands just pipped Maxwell Hereward (360cycling) who finished the course in 21-14, while the final podium place went to Velotik Racing Team’s David Parkin in 21-34 in what proved to be a highly competitive men’s event.

In the women’s event Rogers clocked 24-43 to finish ahead of Velotik Racing Team rider Michelle Fairclough who finished in 27-00, with third-placed Lynsey Astles completing a fine day for Congleton CC in 27-25.

Elsewhere, there was success for Alexander Sutton, with the 360cycling rider finishing top of the Juvenile category in 26-35, with Hereward’s performance enough to take the Junior title while Seamon’s CC’s Stephen Dooley was fastest veteran in 22-26 and Rogers top Veteran on Standard in +5-05.

After opening his season with two consecutive runners-up placings at the Rossendale RC Hilly 10.3-mile time trial and the Manchester & District TTA time trial, Ribbands will be delighted with his victory since the Seamons CC 26-mile time trial in July 2022.

This event, run on the J4/20 course, starts on Moss Lane just east of Byley and proceeds eastbound on the A50 towards Cranage, then turning northbound on the A50 past Allostock and continuing onto Holmes Chapel Road until reaching Toft where riders turn southbound to pass through Lower Peover and Swan Green to finish on Middlewich Lane.
