Pat Wright

Pat Wright secured victory at the Southern Counties Cycling Union 21-mile time trial in Surrey on Sunday morning, bouncing back from disappointment at the 2022 event when his challenge was ended by a puncture.

The Paceline RT rider clocked an impressive 51-48 to dominate the event ahead of second-placed Richard Llewellyn, the Imperial Racing Team member finishing more than six minutes back in 58-08, while Adrian Blacker, from VTTA Surrey/Sussex, was the third-place finisher in 58-22.

Having finished his opening race of the season at the 14-mile Kingston Wheelers CC time trial in seventh place on February 19, then recording a third place at Redhill CC 18-mile time trial  on February 26, Wright now has his first victory since the 25-mile Southern Counties Cycling Union time trial on September 4 2022 and will hope to continue his form on March 19 at the 25-mile Southern Counties Cycling Union event.

A hardy group of riders braved chilly conditions to tackle the 21-mile course, and despite nearly a quarter of entrants not starting. Competitors were able to enjoy hot drinks and refreshments in race headquarters with all proceeds being donated to MacMillan Cancer Care charity.

This event, run on the GS/334 course in Surrey, starts south west of Godstone and proceeds west past Bletchingley to Nutfield, turning southbound past South Nutfield on Prince of Wales Road and just before Smallfield riders head northbound past Outwood, continuing to the finish just south of Bletchingley.
