Jake Sargent and Josie Harcourt were fastest male and female riders on the VC Bristol 10-mile time trial in Gloucestershire on Saturday morning.

Bristol-based Sargent, riding for Team Bottrill is the course record holder with 19-37, and although he was 17 seconds short of that today, his performance of 19-54 was good enough to give him the overall victory by 1-45.

Second was Michael Davis (Fulfil the Potential Racing) with 21-39, while Aaron Pascovitch (Bristol South CC) took third, another 38 seconds back.

Despite riding a road bike Josie Harcourt (Fulfil the Potential Racing) was fastest female with 24-31, 1-20 faster than top time trial bike and overall runner-up Joanne Jago (Performance Cycles CC), while Joanna Knight (Bristol South CC) was third with 27-45.

Fastest male on a road bike was Stroud Valley Velos’ Gary Hobbs with 23-35, 25 seconds ahead of runner-up in that category Liam O’Mahoney (Bristol and District Triathletes).

This was win number nine in open time trials this season for Sargent, who was runner-up in last weekend’s National Circuit Championship in Devon.

He is next due to be in action on July 2 at the National 50-Mile Championships in Essex, and will also ride the National 100-Mile Championships in Norfolk the following weekend.

“Conditions were great out there today,” said Sargent. “There was heavy rain which cleared in time for sign on.

“There was very little wind which made for pretty even pacing for both legs of the course, although the heat definitely played a part for a lot of riders myself included and I suffered on the return leg.

“It was a great event put on by VC Bristol and great to be racing on a local course. Everything's heading in the right direction ahead of the national 50 and 100.”

Harcourt’s time of 24-31 was a new personal best according to her CTT profile, bettering the 25-09 she rode on the same U102 course two years ago.

She has had good form this season, which led to her finishing as fastest female on a road bike at the final round of the Merlin Cycles Classic Series in Devon last weekend.
