Joshua Aiken (Elevate RT) took his first open hill climb victory of the season at the Wigmore CC event on Hollingbourne Hill, while Grace Dent (San Fairy Ann CC) clearly won the women’s category.

Aiken, aged 28, posted a winning time of three minutes and one second – some six seconds quicker than his nearest opponent.

The Hollingbourne Hill saw competitors battle over a 1.2-kilometre course starting outside the village of Hollingbourne and heading up at an average of 7.8%.

Scratch rider Aiken finished second in the Reading CC event on Streatley last weekend and went one better on this occasion.

Quickest veteran rider James Hayward (Woolwich CC) finished second overall in 3-07, ahead of Matthew Ferguson (Redhill CC) in third overall.

In the women’s event Dent took victory in his first open hill climb of the season stopping the clock in a time of 4-38.

Finishing 11 seconds behind in second was juvenile girl Emily Tanner (Woolwich CC) in 4-49, while veteran Debbie Percival (Kent Velo Girls/Boys) finished third (4-50).

Toby Clayson (VC Deal) was the quickest junior boy stopping the clock in 4-01, while Charles Langford (Southend Wheelers) was fastest juvenile in 3-32.

In the veteran’s category Wigmore CC team-mates Keith Walker and Steven Penny were the quickest in the 50-59 and 60-69 age categories respectively.

The fastest veteran aged over-70 was Brian Perry (Parenesis-TougHuman Cycling) who completed the course in 6-56.

Meanwhile, the team competition was won by Woolwich CC with James Hayward, Kristof De Beule and Alex Pearson all contributing.
