Debbie Percival

Debbie Percival and Nicholas Fennell were fastest male and female riders on time trial bikes at the CC Bexley 10 in Kent on Saturday, while top road bike riders were James Hawkins and Sally Smith.

Percival (Kent Velo Boys/Girls) clocked 26-56 to finish as fastest female, while Natasha Jarman (Southborough and District Wh) was second fastest on a time trial bike. However, Medway Velo Club’s Sally Smith clocked 27-31 on a road bike, and was second fastest overall.

Fennell (Thanet Road Club) covered the Q10/24 course near the Isle of Grain in 20-27 to win overall by 1-06 from Matthew Smith (Colour Tech RT), while Anthony Westwood (Gravesend CC) was another 1-01 back in third.

“It was good to have a sunny afternoon for the event,” said Fennell. “There was a very strong headwind on the return leg which made it a real slog on the way back. I find that course tough to get the best out of myself for some reason, but it’s still nice to take first overall though.

“I’m looking to do some faster ten courses soon, to hopefully find a bit more speed in my legs over the shorter distance. As always a thank you to the organisers of CC Bexley for putting the event on.”

Gemini BC’s James Hawkins clocked 23-21 to win the men’s road bike category by around two and a half minutes from Rob Kennison (Medway Velo Club), and fastest juvenile was Thanet Road Club’s Douglas Tulett who covered the course in 24-34.

Thanet Road Club also won the team prize with Fennell being joined in the winning trio by Simon Henderson (22-58) and Douglas Tulett (24-34) for a combined 1-07-59.

Sunny and warm conditions greeted riders to the course, although it was a windy afternoon with few personal best performances.

The out-and-back course begins near the Isle of Grain and uses the A228 Grain Road heading west through Middle Stoke and turning at Fenn Street.
