David Halliday and Emily Robertson were fastest male and female riders at the Hitchin Nomads CC 25-mile time trial in Bedfordshire on Saturday afternoon.

Halliday (Team Bottrill) clocked 54-15 to take the win by 23 seconds from the promoting club’s Nick Morgan, while Sam Brown 6AM Cycling was 42 seconds off the pace in third.

Taking overall victory despite riding a road bike was Bedfordshire Road CC rider Emily Robertson, whose time of 1-02-45 was almost three minutes quicker than second female Karine Jones (Verulam-Really Moving) with 1-05-31, while another 2-42 back in third was Emily Young (Willesden Tri Club).

The event used the F14/25 course which begins near Wrestlingworth and heads down to Guilden Morden then across to Wendy before looping back west through Tadlow and Wrestlingworth and tackling a second loop of the same circuit.

This was a third open time trial victory of the season so far for in-form Halliday, who has also won the VC Norwich 25 last weekend as well as the VC Baracchi 10 on May 1. And he will be aiming for another win in next Saturday’s Ipswich BC 10 near Gosbeck in Suffolk.

Robertson’s win comes in her second open time trial of 2023, having ridden the Leo 30 last weekend where she was fastest on a road bike as well as being almost two minutes quicker than the best female on a time trial bike too.

Previously second in the National 50-Mile Championship and third at the National 25-Mile Championships nine years ago, 37-year-old Robertson is clearly a rider to watch with plenty left in the tank.
