Hannah Worth

Hannah Worth was fastest female while James Pearcy claimed fastest male at the Tavistock Wheelers 25-mile time trial in Devon on Sunday morning.

Promoting club rider Worth set an impressive time of 1:09-47 to take victory in the women’s event ahead of Alice Lake from Cranbrook Cycle Club who finished in 1:10-31, while a time of 1:11-19 helped Army Cycling rider Eve Newton into third.

In the men’s event, Mid Devon Cycling Club’s Pearcy was in fine form to win in 57-45, ahead of Simon Marshall of Cranbrook Cycle Club in 59-04 as the only two competitors to break the hour mark, and Matt Tupman (Okehampton CC) taking the final podium spot in 1:00-13.

Pearcy finally has his first success in his 27th official event, having previously managed three third place finishes in the 2022 season at the 10-mile Northover VT time trial on April 18, then the City Cycle Couriers 10-mile time trial on April 24 before another podium finish at the 2022 RTTC National 25 mile Championships on June 11.

In other categories Jon Tune (City Cycle Couriers) was fastest veteran, beating Duchy Velo’s Nigel Polkinghorne, while Jenny Jeeves (Holsworthy Peloton) was top female veteran.

Matt Tupman, Jonathan Hobbs and Dom Armstrong teamed up to secure the team prize for Okehampton CC, while Armstrong won the men’s road bike prize and Eve Newton (Army Cycling) was top female on a road bike.

This 25-mile event, run on the S5/25S course, starts on the A396 just southwest of Tavistock on Wringworthy Hill and proceeds northwest bound towards Okehampton, through Mary Tavy, across Blackdown Moor and past Sourton Services to Fowley Cross roundabout.

Here, riders give way and circle the roundabout to retrace the outbound route past the start point to finish approximately two miles from Tavistock opposite the Trout and Tipple pub.
