Jack Levick

Jack Levick (Rose Race Team) was pushed all the way as he took victory at the Shaftesbury CC Open 25 by nine seconds, while Lara Franklin (Stowmarket & District CC) won the women’s event by just two seconds.

Levick, aged 25, clocked an average speed of over 32.3 miles per hour out and back along the A428 in Cambridgeshire on his way to posting a winning time of 46 minutes and 25 seconds.

The fast F2A/25 in Cambridgeshire sees riders start near Madingley Town before joining the A428 and heading westerly around Cambourne to the turn at Caxton Gibbet before making the return journey.

Riders passed through the finish at the 12.5-mile mark and then completed the out and back course for a second time to make the distance.

Spindata had predicted a win for Rob Walker (WardPerformanceUK.Com) in 47-47 - over a minute faster than the prediction of Levick (48-57).

However, the Rose Race Team rider showed the form which has seen him win four races from five rides this season to knock over two minutes off that prediction to stop the clock in 46-25.

Walker knocked over a minute off his predicted time but was beaten by nine seconds, stopping the clock in 46-34.

Ross Clarke (TMG Horizon Cycling Team) led the battle for the remaining podium position finishing in 48-33 ahead of quickest veteran on scratch Chris Holmes (VC Norwich) in 49-16.

The women’s event was even closer with Franklin, aged 31, recording an average speed of over 26.6 miles per hour to stop the clock in 56-23.

Franklin also won the Newmarket Cycling & Triathlon Club 10 and took her second victory of the season on this occasion.

Quickest woman veteran Deborah Beare (Icknield RC) finished two seconds slower in 56-25 while Denise Hurren (Sole Bay Cycle Sport) took third (57-18).
