Mark Richards rode to a second victory from five races this season at the Godric Cycling Club 10-mile time trial in Norfolk on Saturday, with Becky Ridge earning success in the women’s event.

Having finished ahead of the field at the Plomesgate CC 10-mile time trial on March 18, DAP Cycling Club’s Richards finally has his second win of the year after clocking 20-37, 23 seconds head of Nick Partridge (Sole Bay Cycle Sport) while Diss & District CC’s Lee Shipp sealed third place in 21-14.

After a fourth place at Velo Club Baracchi 20-mile time trial on May 1 and third at Great Yarmouth 10-mile time trial on April 7, Richards is atop the podium again.

On his win, he said: “It was a tough day out in the heat, possibly the first 20+ degrees race of the season in the East. The wind was blowing fairly hard on the outward leg.

“As last rider off I had a chance to see how I matched up against Nick Partridge and the others at the turn. I had about 10 seconds on him so knew I had to continue to push hard on the shorter return leg to keep the time I’d gained. As we finished I just had him and one other rider in sight, so hope my efforts had paid off.

“This was the first time I’d time trialled since the Velo Club Baracchi 10 on May Day. It was great to be on winning form again and look forward to more battles!”

Ridge, riding for Loose Cannon’s Conditioning, set a time of 22-44 to finish well ahead of Sole Bay Cycle Sport rider Denise Hurren in 24-35, while a time of 25-20 helped Julia Freeman (Easterly Road Club) to third place.

In the road bike category, John Swindells was fastest male in 23-39 with Karle Howard’s 2606 earning second place and Chris Cantwell taking the third podium spot in 27-57, while Caroline Wyke, of CC Sudbury, was fastest female on a road bike.

This event, run on the B10/43 course, is a very flat single carriageway course with a generally reasonable surface that starts just south east of Wortwell and heads northwest to Bungay where riders turn and head back along the a143 to finish just north of Homersfield.
