Becky Ridge (Loose Cannon’s Conditioning) made it four wins from four events so far this season with victory at the Stowmarket and District CC 16.5-mile time trial in Suffolk, while Ian Short (Team Sales Engine) was fastest male rider in Sunday’s event.

The winner of this event in last year’s slightly longer 20-mile version of the course, 42-year-old Ridge clocked 40-02 to take victory in the women’s category and was sixth fastest overall. That time was 1-24 faster than her winning time on the same course last month where she was victorious at the Orwell Velo time trial.

So far this season she has also been the fastest female at the Plomesgate CC 10 and the Great Yarmouth CC 10 on Good Friday.

Her time at the Stowmarket event was fastest by 1-07 with the promoting club’s Lara Franklin second and third going to Kerry Brennand (Newmarket C&TC) who was over five minutes further back.

The BS33 course has been slightly revised for 2023, and now begins north of the village of Debenham before heading north to Rishangles where riders turn south east through Kenton and on to Ashfield cum Thorpe, before turning right onto the A1120 to Pettaugh and up to finish to the north of Winston.

Fourth last year in this Stowmarket event, 49-year-old veteran Ian Short (Team Sales Engine) clocked 38-31 to win overall by just 16 seconds from Stowmarket and District CC’s Julian Bosley, while last year’s runner-up Glenn Taylor (Shorter Rochford) was third this time, exactly a minute behind Short’s pace.
