Edward Calow

Edward Calow earned a narrow win in the men’s event at the Kings Lynn 25-mile time trial in Norfolk on Saturday afternoon, with Sally Maitland the fastest female.

Royal Air Force CA rider Calow clocked 55-29 to finish 15 seconds ahead of St Neots CC’s Sam McDonald, while Angus Toms (Loose Cannon’s Conditioning) took the final podium place in a time of 56-34.

In the women’s event Maitland was far ahead of the field with a time of 1:10-13, followed by Newmarket Cycling and Triathlon Club pair Kerry Brennand and Judy Brown, who recorded 1:13-39 and 1:14-20 respectively to secure second and third place from a field of six female riders.

Elsewhere, the team prize was won by the Wisbech Wheelers trio of Andrew Jenkins, Matthew Clarkson and Roger Sewell who cocked a cumulative 3:31-45 to take top spot, with Lantern Rouge going to CC Sudbury’s Caroline Wyke who completed the field in 1:15-58.

Kings Lynn have further events scheduled this season, including the KLCC Open 10-mile time trial on April 22, the Eastern District Cycling Association Championships Open 15-mile time trial on July 22, and the King’s Lynn CC Open 10 on September 23.

This event, run on the B25/33 course, is exposed in places but is mostly a flat and un-technical course that starts in Fincham and heads west along Downham Road, turning left at Stradsett and then heading down to Mundford where riders turn and follow the route back to finish just short of Stradsett.
