Despite competing on a road bike Renzo Casale (University Of Bath Cycling Club) posted the quickest time in the West Suffolk Wheelers & Tri Club 21, while Claire Hall (North Essex Velo) was fastest female.

The 21-year-old, from Slough, posted a winning time of 49 minutes and 18 seconds – some 12 seconds faster than the quickest time trial bike.

Casale competed in hill climbs last season and in his first individual time trial the student showed his early season form to take a clear victory overall and in the road bike category.

Mark Arnold

The BS31 saw riders complete two laps of a 10-mile circuit near Bury St Edmunds in Suffolk. Starting outside Risbury village riders descended towards the A14 before heading back north to Flempton and then joining the A1101.

Competitors then headed back towards Risbury aided by a southerly wind to start a second lap which was followed by a short finishing leg back to the start/finish area.

The time trial competition was a close one with veteran rider Mark Arnold (VTTA East Anglia Group) clocking the fastest time of 49-30.

Scratch rider Alex Purcell (CC Sudbury) finished fourth in the same event last season in 50-06. He went much quicker on this occasion with his time of 49-34 good enough for second and just four seconds slower than Arnold.

Jordan Black (West Suffolk Wheelers) was a further nine seconds back finishing third in 49-43 which was just six seconds faster than Simon Daw (CC Sudbury).

The medium gear category was won by David Gill (Diss & District CC) who completed the 21-mile course in 1-03-00.

Claire Hall

There were no woman competitors in the time trial category and Claire Hall (North Essex Velo) was quickest female on a road bike stopping the clock in 1-03-18.

Ralph Greer-Walker (West Suffolk Wheelers) was the quickest junior clocking 1-04-23 on a road bike.
