Ella Jamieson (Team Bottrill) and Ollie Peckover (trainSharp) secured early-season victories at the Coalville Wheelers 10-mile time trial in Leicestershire on Saturday afternoon.

Jamieson – the 2021 National Junior 25-Mile Champion -  clocked 23-54 to finish as fastest female by almost two minutes from Alison Fovargue (Empella-Cyclocross.com) with RAMcc rider Kate Kirkland third in that category, another 26 seconds back.

As predicted by national ranking system Spindata, Peckover clocked 20-23 which gave him overall victory by 30 seconds from Alex Dopfer (Team Bottrill), with Common Lane Occasionals’ Sam Walsham clocking 21-28 to take third.

“It was a tough day for it, especially with it being the first event of the season for most people,” said Peckover. “The wind was blowing a bit more than we probably would've liked which made the drag out of Breedon especially grippy, but then again made for an easier time up the final kicker before the nice downhill run to the finish.

“Considering it was the first event of the year the legs and the numbers were okay, and only being five seconds off a course PB was a nice bonus as well.”

And fastest female Jamieson said afterwards: “I was really happy with the ride, I wasn’t sure how I’d go as I’ve been in Majorca all week with the Great Britain junior academy squad and it was a long week especially having only got back on Friday.

“My legs felt awful after the travel and a long week, so I ended up just riding as hard as I could with what was left in the tank.

“I’d raced on this course last year in one of the women’s team cup races and came fifth so I knew the course pretty well, which definitely helped.

“Next up for me is the Nations Cup Piccolo Trofeo Alfredo Binda where I’ll be riding for GB. It’s really exciting to get racing and I’m looking forward to the year ahead.”

The event used the popular A10/34 course which begins north of Griffydam and heads north, over the A42 and loops round to Breedon on the Hill before turning south towards Lount, back over the A42 towards Newbold and then up to the finish near Osgathorpe.

Peckover last rode this course in an open time trial back in March last year when his time of 20-44 was good enough for third. He has also entered the Coalville Wheelers event on the same course on March 25, and this performance will give him a benchmark to aim for in five weeks time.
