George Peden

George Peden (Team PB Performance) opened his account for the season by winning the Darlington CC 25, while Caroline Ratcliff (Ferryhill Whs) won the women’s event.

Peden, aged 22, proved his early season form and was the only rider to break the 50-minute mark clocking 49 minutes and 10 seconds.

The T254/1R saw riders compete on the A6055 course which runs parallel to the A1(M).

Riders completed two laps of the rolling course with riders competing on the tough road between Leeming Bar and near Kirkington.

The weather was kind to competitors for the event with a very light breeze and improving cool and dry conditions.

Northern Irish rider Peden, originally from Ballymoney, won three events last season and got his season off to the perfect start.

Scratch rider Jack Levick (Rose Race Team) won the Manchester & District TTA 10 on his first outing of the season but had to settle for second on this occasion in 50-48.

Caroline Ratcliff

Host club rider Marcel Schubert was quickest veteran on scratch and completed the podium positions in a time of 51-59.

Rob Carter (Cleveland Whs CC) put in an impressive ride of 55-24 to finish fastest road bike while Ellis Murray (Vector Racing) was the quickest junior in 1-01-50.

On her opening outing of the season veteran rider Ratcliff won the women’s event clocking a time of 1-06-25.

She was chased home by Liz Ball (Valley Striders CC) taking second in 1-08-38 while Sarah Foulds (Velo Culture) finished third (1-10-06).
