Hannah Farran lowered her own course record on the way to victory in the women’s event at Houghton CC’s Quarrington Hill Climb on Sunday morning, while Nick Munro sealed success in the men’s event.

Having set a time of 2-34.6 in 2019, Team Boompods rider Farran reduced that to 2-30.9 in beating Sarah Wilkinson (Blaydon CC), who finished in 2-44.5, and third-placed Lois Jarvis of Muckle Cycle Club who set 3-04.5.

In the men’s event, Royal Air Force Association rider Munro clocked 2-00.0, earned a two-second victory over Hugo Storey (Muckle Cycle Club), while a time of 2-08.7 helped Brian Ward, of Protech Velo, into third place.

Munro has enjoyed a fine hill climb season, with five wins from eight events and a further three runners-up finishes, with his victories coming at the Zurbaran Racing hill climb on August 21, the Cleveland Wheelers CC event on September 25, Sheffrec Monsal hill climb on October 2 and Cestria CC’s Peth Bank hill climb a week later on October 8.
