Lewis Wake (Team Kirkley Cycles) was the winner of the Barnesbury 10-mile time trial, while in the women’s event Vicky Gibbs (Reifen Racing) was the fastest rider.

Scratch-man Wake won the event in a time of 19 minutes and 39 seconds, the only rider to go sub-20 minutes on the day. His time was a little way off the course record of 18:52, but he was happy with his performance nonetheless.

In second place was his team-mate Adam Smith who rode a 20-06. Following that time for third was Nick Badcock of Allen Valley Velo, he finished in 20-16.

Wake’s last ride out was in the Houghton CC 25 which he also won. Prior to that he had a second placed finish, making these back-to-back wins and two wins from his last three open outings.

For the women, Gibbs of Reifen Racing was fastest, completing the course in a time of 23-24.

Second was Louise Burnie of Blaydon CC who clocked in at 24-13. Completing the podium was Lois Jarvis of North Tyneside Riders who competing on a road bike set a 10-mile personal best of 24-44.

Vicky Gibbs

Gibbs, similar to Wake, was on the podium at the Houghton CC 10, though she was in second place. Opposite of Wake she won her event prior to that which gives her also two wins from her last three open events. Next up for her is the Blaydon CC 23 in a few weeks.

Lee Cuthbertson of Muckle CC won the road bike competition with a ride time of 21-12, good enough for fifth overall.

Veteran rider Ray Bell of Derwentside CC (aged 73) completed the course in 26-19, beating his standard by +3:35.
