Amelia Mitchell and Nick Bunyard were fastest female and male riders respectively at the Chippenham and District Wheelers 25-mile time trial near Malmesbury in Wiltshire on Sunday.

Mitchell, 26 and riding for FTP Race Team, covered the distance in 1-02-14 to take the win by 1-36 from Joanne Jago (Performance Cycles) and set a new women’s course record, while third female was Marianne Carpenter of Bath CC who was around six and a half minutes behind Mitchell’s pace.

And in the men’s event Bunyard, the 42-year-old Pronto Bikes rider, clocked 56-38 to take overall victory by just eight seconds from Michael Davis (FTP RC) who took the veterans prize under the ‘one rider one prize’ ruling.

Third overall and quickest on a road bike was Karl Norris (360VRT) in 58-11, while 20 seconds further adrift was Swindon Road Club’s William Howse.

The circuit U86/25 course begins north of Little Somerford and heads west to Malmesbury before looping round through Charlton and Minety, back south towards the M4 and back to the finish near Little Somerford.

This was Bunyard’s first open time trial win of the season, but comes after several good performances in other events including third in the Bath CC 25 in May and fifth in both the Bath CC 10 and 24 in April and March respectively.

He has entered next weekend’s a3crg 50 on Sunday and will be hoping for another good performance.

This was victory number two for Amelia Mitchell, who was victorious at the AeroCoach Road Bike Championships 15-mile event for women in May, and was second female at the Bristol South CC 25-mile event in March.

She is next down to ride at next Sunday’s National 100-Mile Championships.
