Jordan Giles (Primera-Teamjobs) and Jennifer George (The Independent Pedaler – Nopinz) were comfortable winners of the men’s and women’s events at the Velo Club St Raphael 27 (Goodwood Hilly) on Sunday.

Giles, aged 23, recorded a winning time of one hour, two minutes and 33 seconds over the 27-mile classic time trial using much the same course near Goodwood in West Sussex as the 1982 World Championships.

The P911 course started and finished near the Goodwood Aerodrome heading straight into a climb past Goodwood Park with an opening loop up to Singleton.

The second bigger loop saw riders head up the A185 to Upwaltham and back to East Dean before continuing south to Strettington for a third loop joining the A285 heading through Halnaker before heading back west to the finish.

Giles also won the Wightlink-Wight Mountain CRT 40-kilometre event on road bikes on his last outing and showed his form again on another tough course taking victory.

Pat Wright (Paceline RT) started as scratch man but could not prevent Giles from taking victory finishing second in 1-05-21, while Dov Taite (ABCpure) completed the men’s time trial podium in 1-23-09.

In the women’s time trial event George, aged 39, recorded a winning time of one hour, nine minutes and 27 seconds.

George, who won the National Circuit Championship earlier this season, finished third in the National 10-mile Championship on her last outing and showed her form again taking a clear win this time out.

Under-23 rider Lucy Gadd (Storey Racing) finished second in 1-11-56 while Emma O’Toole (Nopinz Motip Race Team) completed the women’s time trial bike podium positions (1-21-15).

In the road bike category Michael Wykes (Blazzing Saddles) took a fine victory recording a winning time of 1-08-35.

Thomas Willan (East London Velo) finished second in 1-09-27 while Joe Parker (Racing Club Ravenna) completed the podium positions a further 37 seconds back.

The quickest woman road bike rider was Louisa Cooper (Bournemouth Jubilee Whs) who completed the course in 1-24-00.

The event also included a two-up team time trial category which was won by the Poole Wheelers Cycling Club pair of Ryan Weston and Alex Rowling completing the course in 1-13-08.
