Alice Lake and Liam Bard were crowned fastest female and fastest male respectively at the City Cycle Couriers’ 13-mile time trial in Devon on the opening weekend of the season.

Cranbrook Cycle Club’s Lake clocked an impressive 38-13 over the course to take the women’s prize ahead of host club rider Katya Tune, three minutes behind in 31-13, with a time of 41-35 enough for Martina Geraghty, of Penzance Wheelers, to seal the final place on the podium.

In the men’s event, GTR – Return to Life rider Bard finished in 30-05 to beat Nigel Polkinghorne, of Duchy Velo, by 31-52, while Okehampton CC’s Lloyd Copp secured third place in 32-01.

After finishing his 2022 season with victory in the Exeter Wheelers CC 10-mile time trial, Bard will be delighted to begin the new campaign in similar fashion with a convincing triumph.

The rider will be hoping to build on his four successes of last year, having also won at Exeter Wheelers CC (sporting) in March, then North Devon Wheelers 22-mile time trial in May followed by a 10-mile success at Cranbrook CC later that month.

This route, on course S3/13S(A), sees riders complete a circular circuit starting in Ermington and proceeding westwards on the A3121 to the roundabout at Hollowcombe Cross, Ermington then exiting onto the A379 and continuing to Modbury.

At Palm Cross riders take a left, then a right, then another left onto Old Dartmouth Road and in approximately 3 miles join the B3207 and in a further 200 yards, at California Cross, join the B3196 until the roundabout at Kitterford Cross and exit onto the A3121 to continue downhill and finish by the start.
