Charlie MacTear (High Wycombe CC) went quickest in the Mid-Devon CC hill climb, while Fiona German of the promoting club was the victor in the women’s event on Widecombe.

It proved a successful trip down to Devon for espoir rider MacTear as he completed an impressive ride with a 4:59.2 ride to secure the top spot.

There were lots of youth in good form in this event with junior Callum Start of the home club putting up a time of 5:20.6 to take second. Third was Ollie Pennington (1st Chard Whs), his final time was 5:26.9.

This was the first hill climb event of the season for MacTear who was absent from open competition in 2021. His last result for a hill climb event came at the 2020 National Championships where he secured a top ten finish. A win here doesn’t hurt his chances of competing in the Championship this year.

In the women’s event it was Fiona German that headed the field, completing her ride in 7:14.8.

Angharad Berriman (Penzance Whs CC) came second as she clocked 7:52.8. Following that time and filling the final spot on the podium was Wiebke Rietz (1st Chard Whs), she completed the course in 7:58.9
