William Barr won the men’s event while Eve Newton was fastest woman at the City Cycle Couriers 10-mile time trial in Devon on Sunday morning.

Riding for Beacon Roads CC, 31-year-old Barr was the only entrant to go under 20-00, in 19-59, as he took victory ahead of Duchy Velo’s Nigel Polkinghorne in 20-35, while promoting club rider Rob Scott was just five seconds back in 20-40.

Barr also won on the same course at the City Cycle Couriers 10 on June 4, on that occasion recording 19-28 to take overall victory, and has since finished 12th in the RTTC National 10-mile Championship on August 28 and before that registered a third at the City Couriers RT 10 on August 21.

Newton, 31 and riding for the Army Cycling Team, clocked 24-01 to earn success in the women’s event, while Felix Whetter (Mid Devon CC) clocked 20-52 to edge out clubmate James Pearcy (21.01) by nine seconds to be fastest junior.

This event, run on the S4/10 course, starts near Dean Prior Parish Church on the A38 just south west of Buckfastleigh, and proceeds northeastwards towards Exeter before heading to Ashburton, then bearing right and rejoining the A38 towards Plymouth and turning to retrace the outward route, passing Ashburton and Buckfastleigh, and finish 500 yards before Dean Prior Church.
