Simon Marshall was fastest male while Martina Geraghty took victory in the women’s event as riders enjoyed warm, calm conditions at the Mid Devon CC 25-mile time trial near Buckfastleigh in Devon on Sunday morning.

Exeter Wheelers’ Marshall was the first rider off and a time of 53-20 helped him remain top of the leaderboard, finishing ahead of Donald Brook from the host club in 54-02 and Lubos Obornik (CS Dynamo) in 54-50, after pre-race favourite Conrad Moss was forced to retire due to mechanical problems.

Geraghty dominated the women’s event with the Penzance Wheelers rider clocking 1-02-15 to beat Rose Willis of St Austell Wheelers (1-04-52) by more than two minutes.

Marshall claimed his second victory of the season and first since winning the Tavistock Wheelers 25-mile time trial on March 20.

In the veterans’ categories, Nigel Polkinghorne (Duchy Velo) was fastest 40+ in 55-02, with Lee Sanderson clocking 56-55 to take the 50+ honours and Devon CC clubmate Mark Sanders quickest in the 60+ group in 55-47.

The event, on course S4/25A, starts near Lower Dean Church and heads to Goodstone Junction, before joining the westbound A38 and heading down to Lower Dean, heading under the A38 bridge and along the B3380, rejoining the A38 and retracing to Goodstone Junction, repeating the circuit and finishing opposite Dean Court Farm.
