John Mulvey (UpShift Nutrition Race Team) took his first victory of the season in the Oxonian 36-mile time trial, while Ann Warren brought home the women’s honours for the host club.

Mulvey won four out of his six events last season and started his 2022 with another victory clocking a winning time of one hour, 28 minutes and 21 seconds.

Oxonian CC's traditional early season open took place at Charlbury on the H36/18 course on Sunday morning.

The course follows two laps of rolling Cotswolds countryside, taking in Charlbury, Chipping Norton and Shipton-under-Wychwood.

Last year Mulvey was denied victory in the Oxonian 36 taking place in April finishing runner-up.

However, he returned to go one better on this occasion beating James Pittard (Didcot Phoenix CC) by 26 seconds (1-28-47).

Quickest veteran Simon Smith (TY Cycles) completed the podium positions taking third in 1-31-57.

Host club Oxonian CC won the team award consisting of Alexander Donger (1-45-56), Ann Warren 1-46-20, Matthew Robson (1-48-10) and Rob Suriano (2-02-58)

In the women’s category Warren took her first ever open time trial victory recording a time of one hour, 46 minutes and 20 seconds - almost two minutes quicker than her nearest challenger.

Last season veteran rider Warren finished 16th in the National 10-mile Championship and started 2022 in winning form.

Fellow veteran Emma Bexson (Stratford Cycling Club) finished second in 1-48-28 while Grace Gilbert (Oxford Tri) completed the podium positions in 1-49-13.

The event incorporated a separate road bikes category which consisted of just under half of all the entrants.

The category was dominated by local triathlon club, Oxford Tri, with the club taking five of the top six places and winning both men's (Rai Alsemgeest) and women's (Hannah Slater) divisions.

Alsemgeest clocked a winning time of 1-45-23 which was 30 seconds faster than Alexander Donger (Oxonian CC) 1-45-56 while Francisco Gomez (Oxford Tri) completed the podium positions in third (1-46-39).

Oxford Tri also had two podium positions in the women’s road bike event with Slater clocking a winning time of 1-54-09.

Team-mate Dana Vilistere completed a one-two for Oxford Tri finishing in 1-54-49 while Maddie Angwin (Cambridge University CC) finished third (1-57-04).
