Cox and Owen victorious at Chester RC 25
Ashley Cox (Team Bottrill) is believed to have broken the course record on his way to victory in the Chester Road Club 25-mile time trial in Shropshire on Sunday, while Frances Owen (Fibrax Wrexham RC) was quickest of the women.
Cox clocked 47-41 to win on the day by a comfortable margin of 3-42 from Oswestry Paragon CC’s Kieran Morris, while David Williams (Velotike RT) was another 38 seconds back in third.
Owen took the women’s prize after covering the D25/23t course near Market Drayton in a time of 57-27, giving her the win in that category by 3-46 from Wrekinsport CC’s Deb Hutson-Lumb, while Emma Serjeant (Hafren CC) was third in 1-01-30.
The event was rearranged from May after roadworks forced a postponement, but the event had warm temperatures and made for a pleasant morning where Cox is believed to have set a new course record, beating Sean Mullen’s time by 51 seconds, subject to ratification.
This was Ashley Cox’s fourth win in four finishes in open time trials, having already tasted victory in last weekend’s Verulam CC 25 in Bedfordshire, and the Northampton RC 25 and Stafford RC 10 back in May.
He is next expected to be in action at the Sherwood CC 10 next Saturday, as well as the Bedfordshire Road CC 25 on the last day of the month.
Frances Owen’s victory comes just seven days after she placed fifth at the National 100-Mile Championships with an impressive 3-58-19.
