Liam Maybank

Liam Maybank (Twickenham CC) took a slender victory by just nine seconds in the Alton CC/Owens Cycles 10, while Hayley Rigby (Giant Camden Team Liv) won the women’s event.

Veteran rider Maybank started as scratch man and took a second victory of the season in a time of 19 minutes and 49 seconds.

The H10/8 saw riders start outside Farnham before competing out and back along the A31 turning at Alton before making the return trip.

The weather was dry for the event but a windy afternoon slowed times with competitors hampered by a cross-headwind on the return leg.

Maybank also won the Maidenhead & District CC 15 in March and finished second in the Westerley Cycling Club 25 last weekend returning to winning ways on this occasion.

Hayley Rigby

Fellow veteran Mark Smith (Crawley Wheelers) finished second nine seconds behind while Adrian Talley (Portsmouth North End CC) completed the podium positions in 21-08.

In the women’s event Rigby recorded a winning time of 22-39 which was two minutes clear of her nearest challenger.

Rigby, aged 30, finished third in the North Roads CC 25 last month but took her first victory of the season on this occasion.

Quickest veteran woman Virginia McGee (...a3crg) was second in 24-45 which was five seconds faster than Charly Helyar (Wellington Wheelers Cycling Club).
