Kate Allan (Team Bottrill) was the overall winner of the Newbury Velo 15-mile time trial, while Kevin Tye (VeloRefined Rule 5) was the fastest man on the day.

National 50-mile Champion Allan continued her storming form with her time of 30 minutes and 20 seconds being five seconds quicker than anyone out of the whole solo field.

Angela Carpenter (...a3crg) took second place amongst the women with a time of 32:19, with local rider Melanie Sneddon (TORQ Performance) making up the women's podium with a time of 33:28.

Allan was able to take over two and a half minutes off the female course record. It was just last month that she finished second in the National 100-mile Championship just weeks after her National 50-mile title success.

Riders were faced with perfect conditions on the H15/3 course which starts on the B4000 near Boxford, then joins the A4 to Hungerford and back.

Competition was close in the men's field. Tye eventually finished in first place, riding a time of 30:25. At 60 years old, his winning time also gave him a national age group record.

Second placed man James Fawcett (...a3crg) also breached the 31-minute mark with 30:44 whilst Gareth Williams (Twickenham CC) took the final podium spot with a time of 31:07.

Tye has been very active especially as of late, competing four times in open events last month and finishing on the podium in the two most recent outings. His last ride out saw him secure a third placed podium finish in the VTTA 10.

Top rider on standard was Carpenter (+12:24) with Tye taking second place (+11:32) and Sarah Matthews in third with +10:53.

In a strong tandem field, Ian Greenstreet and Rachael Elliott of the home club, Newbury Velo, rode a course best to clock the fastest time of the day with 29:02 - a new national age record by over a minute.

Team-mates Andy Tucker and Richard Cornes took second place (32:48) with Stuart Martingale and daughter Skye Martingale (Sotonia CC) third in 38:38.

A special mention went to Norman Harvey and Mary Corbett on their tandem trike: the riders clocked 41:55 for the distance - a new national age record.
