Chris Vellacott

Veterans Chris Vellacott and Joanna Gundle took victory at the City Cycle Couriers 10-mile Andrew Nosworthy Memorial event in Devon on Sunday morning.

Vellacott, the 59-year-old who rides for the Royal Navy and Royal Marines CA, clocked 24-40 to win by 23 seconds from event organiser Rob Scott, while third was junior Jack Southcott (ROTOR Race Team) who was just two seconds further off the pace.

Gundle was the only female competitor, and the 58-year-old High Wycombe CC rider clocked exactly 31 minutes to take the category win and place sixth out of eight finishers overall.

Vellacott has now ridden ten open events in 2021, and this was his second victory following a win in June’s a3crg Glorious Goodwood Circuit time trial, which was for pre-1999 lo-pros and bandit bikes!

The course begins near Ermington in Devon, at Hollowcombe Cross – the junction with the A379 and the A3121. It heads north east skirting Ermington, Ludbrook and Ugborough before turning near Venn Cross and heading back down.

Behind the top three, Vellacott’s team-mate at the Royal Navy and Royal Marines CA, Barry Moss clocked 25-55 for fourth, while BPM Coaching rider James Greenaway was fifth in 29-30.
