William Taylor (GFTL) took his first ever open time trial victory in the Newmarket Cycling & Triathlon Club 25, while Sophie Lankford (Jadan CycleSpace- Vive Le Velo) was a convincing winner in the women’s event.

Taking part in his first open 25-mile time trial Taylor set himself a benchmark personal best time of 54 minutes and 30 seconds.

The E33/25 course was used in last season’s National Circuit Championships won by John Archibald (48-50) in the men’s while Emily Meakin (55-02) won the women’s event.

The course consists of two triangle-shaped laps between Newmarket and Cambridge with the undulating course consisting of single carriageway, A roads and unclassified roads.

On his last open time trial outing Taylor clocked 20-07 which was enough for 15th in the Chronos RT 10 in July.

Over the longer distance on this occasion Taylor took a clear victory finishing a minute and 19 seconds clear of his nearest challenger.

Quickest veteran Richard Harrison (Drag2Zero) led the charge behind with a season’s best second place in a time of 56-01.

A close battle for third saw veteran Sam Wightman (Team Bottrill) clock 56-26 which was just two seconds quicker than Jordan Black (Loose Cannon's Conditioning).

Meanwhile, Simon Butteriss (Ely & District CC/B&T Motor Repairs) was quickest in the road bike category beating the hour mark in 59-47 while Paul Maltby (Newmarket Cycling & Triathlon Club) placed second (1-02-46).

In the women’s event Lankford recorded her fourth win from as many events this season finishing over two minutes clear of her nearest rival.

The 25-year-old was in fine form recording a winning time of one hour and 47 seconds over the distance.

Pip Jenkins (Southborough & Dist. Whs) finished second woman in 1-03-09 while quickest veteran Sophie Lee (Team Catenary) finished third (1-05-12).

Veteran Kerry Brennand (Newmarket Cycling & Triathlon Club) was quickest women’s road bike rider recording a time of 1-10-21.
Fellow veteran Judy Brown (Newmarket Cycling & Triathlon Club) was second road bike in 1-12-26 while Lucy Giffin (Histon & Impington Bicycle Club) was third (1-16-48).
