Lindsey Styler and Phil Ellison both secured their first victories of the season on record and did so with authority in the Liverpool Phoenix CC 25-mile time trial on Sunday morning.

Ellison (Thatto Cycles RT) had seen limited recorded action in time trialling this season with two fourth places to his name but that didn’t hinder him while winning the 25-mile event by a good margin of over a minute.

He set a time of 53-37 around twenty riders before the close of the day’s action which stood until the end.

Ian Lawton (Mersey Tri) came closest but even his time of 54-42 was no match for Ellison’s impressive turn of form in what organisers described as “virtually perfect conditions that are unusual for around here.”

Lawton still searches for his own maiden win of the season on record but already has three second place finishes in a consistent run of form. Adrian Hughes (Seamons CC) occupied the last spot on the podium with a time of 55-43 in what was a very spaced out top four spots.

Spaced out the top four spots may have been but Lindsey Styler (Croston Velo) left even little to chance in the women’s event.

She carved out a time of 1-01-17 on the undulating course to eventually take top spot by a commanding and ruthless 5-48.

Karen Bailey (East Lancashire RC) finished second in 1-06-05 with Hannah Fawcett (Liverpool Braveheart BC) a further minute behind in 1-07-07.

The team prize went to Mersey Tri as their trio of Ian Lawton, Roberto Conte and Mark Dempsey clocked a combined time of 2-56-13.
