Ben Stancombe

Ben Stancombe and Jenny Anderson were fastest male and female riders respectively at the VC Baracchi 50-mile time trial in Norfolk on Sunday.

Stancombe, the 29-year-old from Ely who rides for Team Velovelocity, clocked 1-46-09 to win by just over five minutes from Lucas He (Cambridge University CC), while Anderson (Great Yarmouth CC) was almost seven minutes ahead of her nearest rival with her time of 2-19-18.

The two-lap B50/17 course starts near Wortwell and, after heading south west round Harleston, it turns and heads back up north east past Wortwell and Bungay and up to the turn near the junction with the A146 Norwich Road.

Stancombe’s victory was his sixth win on record in 2019, but surely won’t be his last. He was victorious in the CC Breckland 15 which doubled up as the District Championship in July, and also won the North Norfolk Wheelers 10 in June as well as the District 50-Mile Championships staged by Godric CC.

In May he was fastest in the VC Baracchi 10, and back in March he took the win in the CC Breckland 10.

After riding the Diss and District CC 25 next weekend, Stancombe will start final preparations for the National 10-Mile Championship on August 31.

Anderson’s victory was her first open time trial win of 2019 on her CTT record, but she has proved consistent through the year so far.

She was second in the VTTA East Anglia 10 last month, as well as the Plomesgate cc 25 IN May, and was third in the Wolsey RC 25 in April.
