Louisa Cooper and Sam Wadsley were fastest as Bournemouth and District WCA staged a 25-mile time trial near Upton in Dorset on Sunday.

Cooper, the 36-year-old from Wimborne who rides for Bournemouth Jubilee Wheelers, clocked 1-03-32 for the challenging P413 course on the Upton bypass.

That gave her the win in the women’s category by 3-48 from Dream Cycling rival Ellie Gilham. Michelle Walter (Bournemouth Arrow CC) was another 3-39 back in third spot in that category, and was also the fastest female veteran on standard with +4.45.

Meanwhile, Dorchester-based Wadsley led a one-two for Primera TeamJobs with his time of 52-44, which was almost a minute quicker than team-mate Paul Jones, while Simon Berogna (VC St Raphael) was 2-17 off the pace in third.

The event was run on a chilly and clear morning with an unwelcome brisk westerly wind.

Behind the podium places, Tim Flynn (Poole Wheelers) was fourth with 56-22, while New Forest CC’s Aron Kelly was fifth, 33 seconds behind Flynn.

Wadsley’s win comes after he was also victorious in the Bournemouth Jubilee Wheelers sporting 42-kilometre event road bike category three weeks previously, while he was second in the Sotonia CC’s sporting 14.8-mile road bike event last weekend.

He is next down to ride the Welsh 25-mile Championship next Sunday on the fast R25./3h course near Rhigos, before tackling the Andover Wheelers 25 on May 12.

Outside of the main solo prizes the team prize went to the VC St Raphael trio of Simonm Berogna, Martin Beale and Stuart Thompson, while Paul Jones was best veterans on standard with +13.59, beating Terry Icke (Poole Wheelers) who was +12.22.
