Dave Allonby of Springfield Financial RT took a narrow victory in the 10-mile North Lancs RC event in Garstang on Saturday.

Allonby completed in a time of 21.29 to take top step on the podium, just seven seconds quicker than Croston Velo’s Tom Rigby, who had to settle for second place with 21.36. Irwin of organising club North Lancs RC was third in 21.54, enough to make him quickest veteran.

It was a god ride from Allonby and he’ll be hoping to continue his good form of last year when he placed in the top three at a number of events including the 30-mile Wigan Wheelers trial which he won.

The event started a little earlier than originally planned with 130 riders applying to enter. Despite a dire forecast, the weather stayed mostly fine for the riders that did manage to get a place.

Times were down on last year with Steve Irwin reporting commenting that his energy output was 50 watts down on last year, although he did put some of that down to a lack of training.

Team Merlin’s Rebecca Rimmington was the fastest woman on the day, 20th overall in a time of 24.01. Coveryourcar.co.uk were the winners of the team contest with Dan Taylor, John Morgan and Paul Blackburn combining for the winning time.
