Cullen edges to narrow Chester RC win

aking victory by just one second, Tony Cullen (Tri Central UK) was victorious in the Chester Road Club 14-mile time trial, staged on the D14/2 course near Broxton, Cheshire, on Saturday.
The top three places were hotly contested and Cullen’s 31.51 was just enough to land him top place with Tom Brazier of Team Elite just missing out with a 31.51.
David Williams of Velotic RT also had a good ride and was just nine seconds off the winning pace, stopping the clock at 32 minutes dead. Williams’ place on the podium was safe with 16 seconds between himself and fourth-placed Graham Kemp of Team Bottrill.
Although conditions for the event were showery and with a brisk southwest wind, it was not as cold as in previous years, allowing for good times.
Christopher Mann of Marsh Tracks RT took the junior prize with a respectable 35.25 and Sally Cunliffe of VC Melyd topped the women’s standings with 41.57.
Despite not placing a rider in the top ten, consistency proved to be the secret for Wrexham RC with their trio of Dyfan Evans (34.49), Gareth Sanger (35.05), Darren White (35.11) winning the team prize with a combined time of 1.45.05.
