Clark secures Matlock double

Joseph Clark registered his second win of the day with victory at the in Matlock on Sunday afternoon.

After competing in the morning at nearby Riber, the riders took to the Bank Hill course. Whilst 200 yards shorter, this is the course that the best riders will test themselves on next weekend at the national hill climb championship.

It was Clark (Envelopemaster-Giant Sheffield) who laid down his marker, securing his second victory of the day, following up breaking his own course record in the morning with a strong display in the afternoon.

The 24-year-old from Belper stopped the clock on 1:48.8, giving him a winning margin of 4.6 seconds.

The next three riders were separated by just two tenths of the second, with Andy Nichols (Team B38/Underpin Racing) taking second place.

James Allen (Sheffrec CC) and Lee Baldwin (Champion System/VCUK) both clocked time of 1:53.6, to share third place.

Fiona Burnie (Bishop Auckland CC) was the fastest woman in the field, showing off her credentials at the national championship course by finishing as first woman in a time of 2:29.4.

In the process, she went faster than defending national champion Maryka Sennema (Paceline RT), and Emilie Verroken (Langsett Cycles RT).
