Essex Roads CC rider Colin Ward proved fastest in the Brighton Mitre CC 25-mile time trial, staged on the G25/93 course near Steyning in West Sussex on Sunday.

Ward won the senior men’s race with a time of 51.46, good enough for victory by 30 seconds from Peter Tadros (In Gear-Quickvit RT), while Pat Wright (Paceline RT) was third, another 18 seconds off the pace.

And Peter’s 14-year-old son Theo clocked 58.50 to win the women/juniors event comfortably, by 2-18 from fastest female Ruth Summerford (Velopace) who was second, while Tamar Vanderhaas (Lewes Wanderers CC) was another couple of minutes back in third.

Redmon CC’s Jon Frost and GS Stella’s Dave Abbott clocked 1:01.16 and were the fastest tandem, while the prize for the quickest road bike without aero devices went to Malcolm Davies (VC Elan) with 1:03.49.

Tadros – who has been focusing on hill climbs in recent weeks – led In Gear-Quickvit to the team prize too, with fifth-placed Conall Yates clocked 54.24 and Richard Gifford finishing in 55.24 for seventh to win that category by 19 minutes from the second best trio.
