Simon Wilson (Secret Training CC) won the Wigan Wheelers 10 on Saturday with a time of 19.15.

Wilson was the only rider on the day to break the 20 minute barrier, with Philip Jones (Preston CC) coming in over a minute down with 20.27.

But it was good enough to nab second place ahead of Ian Cox (Fogarty Insurance Triathlon Team) with 20.28.

Bex Rimmington (Team WNT) was fastest lady with 21.44 and took tenth overall, while Hetty Niblett (Footon Velosport) was fastest Junior recording 22.18.

Mike Westmorland (Border City Wheelers) recorded 22 minutes dead to take the Vet win, +7.14 on standard.

Race organiser Harry Woodcock says he started doing the ‘ninety slowest riders’ format a few years ago to give the slower riders a chance on a fast course.

And the Levens course, which is duel carriageway save for a mile and a half, certainly is that. Bradley Wiggins set the comp record of 17.58 on it the course in 2006 when he was riding for Cofidis.

Additionally, half the proceeds from the race entries is donated to Macmillan Cancer Nurses.
