James Gullen (Pedal Heaven) set a storming time of 45 minutes and 33 seconds to claim victory and a course record in the Realteam 25.

The 26-year-old from Yorkshire stormed around the R25/3H Neath course which is renowned for its fast times.

His time was the second ever fastest over the distance in the UK, behind Alex Dowsett (Moviestar) who set a 44.29 earlier this year on the A14 Newmarket bypass.

Earlier this year Gullen set a time of 18.18 to win the Lancaster 10 and also won a stage of the An Post Ras road race.

On a day when 14 riders beat the 50 minutes mark second place went to Andy Jackson (SSLL Race Team) in 47.05.

Winning the fight for third position was James Copeland (Fareham Wheelers) in 48.04, just five seconds quicker than David Allonby (Springfield Financial).

In the women’s event Anna Turvey (Tyneside Vagabonds) looked to be on for a blistering time before puncturing at the turn.

This allowed Julia Shaw (Drag2Zero) who finished second in the national 50 championships last month to take victory with a 52.13.
