Barry Charlton (Swinnerton Cycles) stormed to victory in the Birkenhead North End CC 22, taking the race by 1:35 from Paul Grindley (Liverpool Century).

Charlton’s time of 47.54 put clear daylight between himself and the chasing pack as the riders raced around the D22/1 which takes in Broxton, Whitchurch and Ridley Green.

The race for second was a much tighter affair, Grindley having a cushion of 17 seconds to steal in front of Matt Stell (Ribble Valley CRC) who had to settle for third.

Nathan Turnbull (Leigh Premier) took fourth place with Richard Kay (North Shropshire Wheelers) and Matthew Gilbert (Fibrax/POA) following up in fifth and sixth respectively.

Becky Lewis (Fibrax Wrexham RC) was the fastest woman finisher on 52.32 whilst Jill Wilkinson was the second fastest on 55.15.
