NEW National 12-Hour champions will be crowned on Sunday, when the 2023 title race takes place in Cheshire.

Neither of the defending champions Tim McEvoy and Christina MacKenzie are competing, but there are plenty of riders with past podium placings in the mix who will be aiming for glory.

Third last year and second in 2021, Joanna Cebrat (360 cycling) is down to ride, but she will have stiff competition from Kim Barfoot-Brace (Team Bottrill) as well as Grace Reynolds (Brother UK) and Corinne Clark (Swindon Wheelers).

And in the men’s event Richard Sharp (ADDFORM-Vive le Velo) and Tom Hutchinson (Team Bottrill) will be aiming to improve on the second and third respectively they secured in the 2021 title race.

Others to watch for include Brian Fogarty (Fogarty’s Insurance Tri Team) and Velotik Racing Team colleagues David Parkin and David Williams.

Elsewhere the Virtual CC 25-mile event in South Wales has been entered by multiple national champion Kate Allan, the Team Bottrill rider who could be making her first competitive appearance since she crashed out of the National 50-Mile Championships.

Others to watch for in this event near Usk include Jake Sargent (Team Bottrill) and Andy Critchlow (Paceline RT), as well as Conrad Moss (Nopinz) and San Wadsley (Primera TeamJobs).

Marcel Schubert (Darlington CC) is tipped for the win at his own club’s 50-mile event near Catterick in North Yorkshire on Sunday.

Spindata has event organiser Schubert down to do a short 1-47, but others to watch for include Adam Taylor (Wigan Wheelers), Neil Cleminshaw (ADDFORM-Vive le Velo) and Stuart Henderson (Team Bottrill).

Look out for Trek Sheffield veteran Sarah Harrison in the women’s event, while Alison Schofield (Barton Wheelers) will be aiming for the win too.

In Norfolk it’s the Diss and District CC 25-mile event near Bressingham on Sunday, with Tim Torrie (trainSharp) and Matt O’Brien (Loose Cannon’s Conditioning) expected to battle it out for the win.

And in the women’s event O’Brien’s wife Hannah also rides for Loose Cannon’s Conditioning, while she will have to overcome Laura Davies (Jadan Vive le Velo) if she wants the win.

Elsewhere on Sunday it’s the Didcot Phoenix CC 10 near Kingston Bagpuize in Oxfordshire, the Coventry CC 10 near Thurlaston in Warwickshire, and the Barnesbury CC 10 near Cramlington in Northumberland.

Saturday’s action includes the Yorkshire Cycling Federation 25-mile event near Arkendale in North Yorkshire. Keep a look out for talented espoir Moonglu CC rider Abi Smith who is tipped to do well, alongside junior Ella Jamieson (Team Bottrill).

In the men’s event, Mark Wolstenholme (VTTA Yorkshire) and Mark Walker (Velo Sport Racing) are expected to do well according to Spindata, alongside Harrogate Nova CC junior Joseph Turnbull and Calum Gibb (Deeside Thistle CC).

Other Saturday events include the Springfield Financial RT 10 on the fast L1015 course near Levens in Cumbria, as well as the ECCA 10 near Six Mile Bottom in Cambridgeshire.
