Brothers Chris and Simon McNamara are among the entries for the early-season VC St Raphael 16.5-mile time trial on Sunday, taking place on the Portsdown Hill circuit near Southwick in Hampshire.

Now both riding for Sigma Sport-Cannondale RT, the brothers tackle the event for time trial bikes but there is a healthy entry for the road bike category too.

Chris McNamara secured 18 open time trial wins last season, and will want to hit the ground running with another victory in this early-season VC St Raphael event which he also won in 2019 and 2018.

National ranking system provider Spindata also predicts a top three finish for GS Mossa’s Ben Williams, while Matthew Downie (TAAP Endura) shouldn’t be too far away either.

The annual Gil Jessop memorial Sporting 14-mile time trial takes place on Sunday with Kingston Wheelers using a course near Ripley in Surrey.

Paul Burton is last rider off, while also in the running is his Paceline RT colleague Pat Wright and Twickenham CC’s Liam Maybank. The women’s event looks to be a battle between Mathilde Pauls (Look Mum no Hands!) and Sarah Matthews (a3crg).

Elsewhere riders in the south west head to Gloucestershire on Sunday for the Severn Road Club 12.2-mile event near Stone.

Among the fast riders for the event on the U7x are Robert Francis (Pronto Bikes) who has a 10-mile PB of 19-21, while other riders with 19-minute PBs over ten miles include Tony Chapman (Frome and District Wheelers).

Of the women, fastest on paper looks to be Joanna Knight (Bristol South CC) as well as her team-mate Emily Kate Walton.

The weekend starts with the Coalville Wheelers 10 on Saturday, on the A10/34 near Osgathorpe in Leicestershire.

On paper the fastest female looks to be junior Ella Jamieson (Team Bottrill), while veteran Kate Kirkland (RAMcc) could challenge.

And in the men’s event Ollie Peckover (trainSharp) will be looking for the win, but he could also have a junior challenger in Alex Beldon (Team Bottrill) as well as his espoir team-mate Axel Dopfer who both have 18-minute personal bests over ten miles.
