Kirsty McSeveney

Kirsty McSeveney was fastest female, while Dan Pullen was overall quickest rider at the VC St Raphael middlemarkers 10-mile time trial in Hampshire on Saturday.

McSeveney, the 38-year-old a3crg rider from Fareham, covered the course near Liphook in 22-49 to win the women’s category by 39 seconds from Deborah Smith (Southdown Velo), while just 13 seconds further back was Warwickshire Road Club’s Deborah Sheridan in third.

43-year-old Pullen (N+1 Lindfield Coffee Works) clocked 19-59, the only rider to go under the 20-minute mark. That gave him the win by 37 seconds from Matt Linham (Portsmouth North End CC) in second, while espoir Harry Johnson (VC St Raphael) was third overall, another seven seconds behind Linham.

The P881r course takes riders from a start near Griggs Green Interchange and along the A3 past Greatham and West Liss, before turning at Prince’s Bridge interchange and retracing to complete the ten miles.

The win was Pullen’s first open victory of 2019, but comes after a string of good performances so far this season.

He placed third in both the East Surrey hardriders 29.9 and Southern Counties CU 25, and was second in the Worthing Excelsior CC 25 on May 12 before taking the top step of the podium in this event.

He is also due to ride the Brighton Mitre CC 10 on Bank Holiday Monday, as well as the Southern Counties CU 50 next Sunday.

For McSeveney this victory is just the latest in a string of good results so far in 2019. She first secured a win in 2019 in February in the Andover Wheelers hardriders 24-mile TT, and went on to win the a3crg 10 and Tornado RCC 10s in March.

April saw her victorious in the Bournemouth Jubilee Wheelers sporting 42km event as well as the Sotonia CC 14.8-mile time trial, while she was also winner of the Hampshire Road Club 10 on May 11.

And with more rides planned in the midweek a3crg 10 series as well as the Fareham Wheelers CC 10 on June 8, she is a good bet to notch up even more victories!
