Alexander Storey claimed a sixth victory of the season in the open category at the Vector Racing eight-mile time trial in Northumberland on Saturday morning, with Sarah Wilkinson triumphing in the women’s event.

GS Metro rider Storey posted an impressive time of 23-30 to seal a second straight victory ahead of Muckle Cycle Club pair Colin Atkinson and John Bowman who registered 24-19 and 24-37 for second and third place respectively.

Storey backed up his previous win as fastest road bike at North Tyneside Riders 50 on June 23, while also winning on a road bike at Tyne and Wear Fire Service CC 12 on June 2 and Blaydon CC 12 on May 24, as well as North Tyneside Riders 10, Blaydon CC two-up and Barnesbury CC 21 in April.

“I noticed the excellent conditions while riding over to the sign-on from Rothbury and knew it was going to be a fast day for all the riders,” said Storey after his win.

“I'm thrilled to take the win and set a new course record on my local roads.

Sarah Wilkinson

“I want to say a big thank you to Vector Racing, all the marshals, and Dub for the great photos.”

In the women’s event, Blaydon CC secured the top three spots with Wilkinson ahead in 28-51, Louise Burnie runner-up in 30-32, and a time of 31-33 helping Angela McGurk to the final spot on the podium.

This event, run on the M8 course, is an eight-mile one-way circuit that starts just south of Hepple on the B6431 and then heads southwest to Elsdon, turning left at the end of the village to finish at the summit of the Gibbet at Northumberland National Park.
