Tyler Hannay earned his second time trial success from just four events with success in the Rossendale Road Club 10.3-mile event on the Bolton by Bowland circuit, with Abigail Wade the fastest female overall.

Having won the National Youth Championship 10-mile time trial on the Isle of Man in 2019, 20-year-old Saint Piran rider Hannay now has a second victory having finished in 23-12 ahead of the 24-25 set by Tactic Sport’s Bryn Lawrence who was third in this event two years ago, while Pendle Forest CC’s Richard Bideau was third in 24-41 having won it in 2022 and placed third last year.

Hannay – who went on to win the Clayton Spring Classic road race the following day – said afterwards: “It was a really tough time trial, starting on a climb which was hard and technical. I just tried to use the speed as much as possible. It was a great course and well marshalled, and I was happy with my ride.”

Metheven Bond took the honours as fastest male road bike, with the Ribble Cycles rider finishing in 25-44.

In the women’s event, Wade was on a road bike but her time of 29-53 was still almost a minute quicker than Joanna Cebrat (360 Cycling) in second on a time trial machine, while third was Cara Rawlinson (Tactic Sport UK) in 31-36.

Cebrat rode a time trial bike and was fastest in that category, but said afterwards: “I really enjoyed the event but I think I'd have done better on a road bike on this occasion because a few sections of the course were rather gravelly, muddy and pretty wet.

“But it's a fun course and if it was resurfaced it would be rather fast for a sporting course. I have not spent much time on the TT bars to be fair so I believe is more suited for a road bike. I did ok on the first uphill bit but I rode the fastest part of the course very conservative not wanting to take any risks and write off my season.

“It's the first time I rode the Bolton by Bowland event as I normally don't target short distance events but the weather looked good and it was an excuse to add some intensity to my winter training and visit the beautiful Forest of Bowland area.

“Next one for me will be the infamous Circuit of the Dales, the sporting 50-mile course with 1200-metre elevation gain.”

This event, run on the L112 course, is a looped course that starts just north of Bolton-by-Bowland and sees riders head north through the Ribble Valley before turning just before Pikeber Hill and returning southeast past Forest Beck then down to finish just west of the start line.
