Samantha Bissell (City RC Hull) took her second victory of the season in the VTTA Yorkshire 25 as she continues to adapt to time trial bike racing, while Sam Ward (Otley CC) was the quickest rider on the day by over two minutes.

Bissell, aged 40, started in the road bike category last season and is now making her mark on a time trial bike.

The V235 saw competitors complete two out-and-back legs along the A168 between Walshford and Boroughbridge.

After winning the City Road Club (Hull) event over 8.5 miles earlier this month Bissell continued her winning record this time out.

The City Road Club rider from Sproatley recorded a winning time of one hour, two minutes and eight seconds – nearly a minute clear of her nearest competitor.

Youth competitor Maia Howell (Matlock CC) has been on stellar form this season and finished second in 1-03-00, while Beth Grogan (Selby CC) finished third (1-03-39).

The only women’s road bike competitor was Dalia Hawley (Albarosa CC) who completed the course in 1-18-52.

“I’m very pleased with that,” said Bissell. “I’ve always ridden a road bike but now I’ve done a few club events on a time trial bike.

“I entered the road bike event initially before picking my time trial bike instead. It was a first five miles, but coming back was tough into a fairly strong headwind.

“Despite the wind it was a personal best for me on that course.”

In the open competition veteran rider Ward lived up to his pre-race favourite tag by recording a winning time of 52-58.

Ward finished third in the Otley CC 10 on his only other open outing in April but went two places better on this occasion.

A close battle for second saw veteran Aidan Adams (Yorkshire Road Club) post a time of 55-34 which was two seconds quicker than Sam Straw (ADDFORM Vive Le Velo) in 55-36.

The only open road bike competitor was James Poulsom (Orien.cc) whose time of 1-02-40 was good enough for joint ninth place overall.
