Carl Shaw (Race Hub) celebrated winning his first ever open time trial at the Witham Wheelers 25, while Evgeniya Righini-Brand (Spalding CC) was the only female competitor.

Shaw, aged 44, upset the Spindata pre-race predictions by blowing his opposition away with a winning time of 52 minutes and 22 seconds.

The C25/22 saw competitors head out and back along the A15 and A52 between Silk Willoughby in Lincolnshire and the turn at Donington.

The testing course saw riders face a climb at the 18-mile mark as they headed past Threekingham before the final leg.

After taking a five-year break in open competitions Shaw returned to time trials this season and finished fifth in the Melton Olympic CC 10 last month.

Spindata had predicted a victory for scratch rider Dominic Righini-Brand but he was three minutes slower than Shaw, who was forecasted to finish in third.

Cian Leveridge (Team PB Performance) finished second on the day in 54-13 and Righini-Brand was third (55-32).

Spalding CC placed four riders inside the top-six positions overall in an impressive team showing.

One of those was Kieran Buffham who was the sole road bike competitor and placed fifth overall in 57-59.

Shaw was the quickest veteran on age adjusted time with his time reduced to 51-52, ahead of hosting club rider Martin Lister in second (55-21) and Righini-Brand in third (55-32).

Evgeniya Righini-Brand (Spalding CC) was the only woman competitor and she completed the course in 1-06-38.

Righini-Brand was also quickest in the Bourne Wheelers 10 last month and she added another open victory to her collection.
