Howard Shaw followed up his East Sussex CA 10-mile time trial success on Saturday with victory in the men’s event at the East Sussex Cycling Association 25-mile time trial on Sunday, with Kate Mankelow winning the women’s event.

trainSharp rider Shaw made it two wins from two with a time of 50-57 to see off competition from Marek Siwicki (Addiscombe CC) who finished in 53-10 for the runners-up spot while Eastbourne Rovers CC’s Adam Rogers took the final spot on the podium in 54-38.

Shaw, who was the pre-race Spindata favourite, fell short of the course record of 48-19 set by Dan Bigham, but now has two wins from two after a winless campaign to date.

Shaw said: “I’m really happy with that. I haven’t had a win all season then get I manage to get two on the bounce this weekend so I’m well pleased.

“The conditions were exceptional for this time of year and I really enjoyed it.

“Next up for me is the Icknield RC 10 on the F11/10 where I am hoping for a 10-mile personal best.”

Mankelow was fastest woman on the course, riding for Lewes Wanderers CC, in 59-24, while her clubmate Neil Edwards was quickest on a road bike in 1:01-54, ahead of Southborough & District Wheelers’ Henry Weaver in 1:02-46 and third-placed David Hickman (Old Portlians CC) in 1:13-33.

This event, run on course G225/89, starts just north west of Maresfield and curves southbound past Maresfield before turning directly south through Uckfield on the A22, continuing south-easterly before reaching Hailsham and returning back along the same route to finish just south of the start line.
